The North Jersey Highlands Historical Society

NJHHS restoring graves at Ringwood cemetary
NJHHS restoring graves at Ringwood cemetery.
The mission of the North Jersey Highlands Historical Society (NJHHS) is to serve as a central organization to collect and preserve the material cultural heritage of the northeastern Highlands region of New Jersey, with a particular interest in the Ringwood Manor State Park and New Jersey’s early iron industry, encouraging public and private awareness and understanding of the region’s heritage.

For over fifty years, NJHHS has been directly involved with the preservation and interpretation of Ringwood Manor and is an Officially Recognized Friends Organization (ORFO) for the NJ State Park Service. NJHHS sponsors many of the events that take place at Ringwood Manor, opens and runs the Victorian Coffee Shop on-site, and stocks and operates the gift shop inside Ringwood Manor, with all monetary proceeds directly supporting physical restoration efforts at the site. NJHHS provides lectures on local history at their public monthly meetings, publishes books and journals on New Jersey history, and organizes an annual conference on Highlands area archaeology  In addition, NJHHS maintains a library in the office section of Ringwood Manor that is available to local researchers by appointment. By becoming a member, you can take advantage of the variety of programming that NJHHS offers and volunteer to assist at various events such as the July 4th event and Victorian Christmas. Any monetary donations to the organization are tax deductible under current laws.
