Book Signing with Ed Lenik
Sunday, April 2nd
1pm to 4pm
Ringwood Manor Coffee Shop
Celebrate the publication of archaeologist and author Ed Lenik's newest book: Stories from an Archaeologist's Notebook: Folk Tales and Memories of the People and Places in the Ramapo Mountains.
The book will be available to purchase on site for $20 (cash or check only, please). The book, a 6x9 illustrated paperback, is not filled with tales of digs and finds, but a selection of the stories Ed and his crew discovered in the first phase of an archaeological project, when they dug into historical records and talked to the locals, asking "What Happened Here?" The stories are sorted into sections on New Jersey and New York and further sorted by Indigenous and Historic voices. Here you will find what existed at Monksville, NJ before the Reservoir drowned the neighborhood, a tale of treasure hunters in Harriman State Park, what salamanders have to do with iron making in an era of indigenous-colonial cross-cultural exchange, and more tales of woolly bear caterpillars, spook rocks, apple trees, and the moon.
All proceeds from book sales go to support the goals and work of the North Jersey Highlands Historical Society, a designated 501c3 non-profit and officially recognized friends organization for Ringwood State Park.
